Memories Of Mom...and GIVEAWAY!

I've been talking about doing a giveaway for awhile now and being that Mother's day is almost here, I found it the perfect opportunity. All you have to do is leave me a comment of a fond memory you have of your mom. Then, I will throw all of your names in a hat (or some other container) and draw one. That's it. Oh, and if you mention this giveaway on your blog, I'll enter you twice! What will you be winning... Both pairs can be yours!
They are both made with sterling silver ear wires. I tried to pick earrings that would compliment any style so that's why I chose two pair. You can keep one and give one away or keep them both, it's up to you. So, start reminiscing. I'll keep this open until Sunday Evening. (Monday, if need be.) Oh, and I'll ship anywhere so, don't worry if you live in another country...I've got you covered!
Here's a fond memory of my mom...
My mom was great at Birthdays. She had a way of making us feel extra-special. She always let us choose what we wanted for our "Birthday Dinners". For awhile I remember choosing pork roast and sauerkraut. I'm not sure why, I just liked it and she made it the best! I remember on my 13th (or 14th) Birthday, I happened to be grounded (which was not unusual for me). I was definitely bummed about it. My mom made me go to my brother's tee-ball game with my dad that day and I wasn't so thrilled about it. When we got home, my mom asked me to take the basket of laundry to my room and put my clothes away. Well, I walked in to my room and out popped 3 of my friends to surprise me! Of course, I was so happy. I still think my mom grounded me just to make the surprise even better. :) We had a great sleepover with good food and of course, cake and ice cream! My 16th Birthday was over the top, complete with a DJ (who happened to be a friend of mine), pizza party and tons of my friends. My mom rented a local hall to hold the event. She also had my cousin come in from Ohio to surprise me. I will never forget that day. I remember almost all of my birthdays because my mom made sure that they were unforgettable. Thanks mom for making me feel so special. I love you.
Happy Mother's Day!

what a great idea! Ok so here's my fond memory of my mom.

When my brother and I were little she used to tuck us into bed and then go down the stairs and play the piano for us. She had a few songs that she was particularly good at, so those were the ones that we always requested... I think one of them was moon river... and another was the theme song from terms of endearment. I haven't heard those songs in so long, but I remember hearing one of them a few years ago and it took me right back to that childhood place :)

and i'll post this on my blog too, hopefully some more people will join in :)

Here is my memory: when I went into labor with Eve the birthing tub wasn't filled up yet. Daniel filled it with as much hot water as he could before the tank emptied. After that my mom kept pots and pots of hot water going on the stove. She made the trek up and down the stairs all night long just so I could have warm water while I labored. It was a LOT of work, and I will always be thankful!

I mentioned this post on my blog - hope it helps. Anyone who won these earrings will be thrilled! You do beautiful work!

8My mom is the most selfless person I know. She's spent her whole life putting her family before herself and I could go on for ages with good memories, but the very first thing that popped into my head was when she used to tuck my sister and I in bed when we were little and she's sing us "Oh How He Loves You and Me" So sweet!

My fondest memory of my mom is that she always made Easter the most fun holiday - she would put together an egg treasure hunt so that my brother and I had to work together clue by clue to find our baskets. It was one of the few times my brother and I did anything together without fighting :) And it was always a challenge to get that basket! Tons of fun and I have carried on the tradition with my own kids -- Thanks Mom! :)
I am mentioning your post on my blog too! :)

*One of the best things my mom did for me when I was younger, was let us get involved in cooking! It was always so much fun to make our kulich (Easter bread) and decorate it with sprinkles, raisins, nuts on top. I also remember before having a dishwasher, she'd let us stand on a chair and usually rinse the soapy dishes off. I loved it! Too bad I don't anymore.

*I'm sharing this on my blog!

*Oh, my favorite are the brown/tan earrings. Is that amber?

My favorite mom memory...

I am left-handed and my mom is right handed. When I was a young girl, she taught me to knit and crochet using a big mirror in her bedroom. We would sit side my side on her bed and I would copy her image in the mirror. It worked too - I can still knit and crochet, and I still have such wonderful memories of learning how. Thanks for bringing that back!

Your earrings are really neat!

One of my favorite memories occurred during a slumber I had. I was about 14 and the "thing to do" at that time in our tiny little town was to wrap houses in toilet paper. It was in fun, and oddly, done to your friends that you really liked. So my 4 friends and I begged my parents to let us go, and while they refused to drive us, they said we could walk to a church friend's house and do so if we wanted.

We took off, absolutely giddy about our mission. It was not like my parents to agree to such a thing. I should have known it was too good to be true...my mom called this family so the parents and their two teenage boys would be outside waiting on us, ready to scare us. And scare us they did!

Leave it to my mom to let us have fun, but still "choose the high road!".

I have so many fond memories of my mom, it's hard to choose. I guess it would be how she was always so patient with us, including us in every project with various jobs. Everything was homemade from food to holiday shirts to school projects. She really did everything from her heart. She really showed us how love is self sacrificing. She always sacrificed herself for us...still does :)

I love the brown earrings!

One of my favorite memories of my mom is whenever I was sick and would stay home from school, she would make me macaroni & cheese and we'd watch the price is right! I know it's silly, but I loved those days, even though I was sick! I'm doing a mother's day give away too, so everyone here is welcome to visit & participate!

I remember when I was a little girl my mom and I used to go to the playground right next to our house and swing. Not only would we sing, we would sing on the top of our lungs choruses like "From the Rising of the Sun". I was her 6th child, and so it always meant so much that she spent alone time with me!

I love the earrings - beautiful! Here's a memory of my mom that I was just talking about last night...

When I was in the hospital giving birth to my first child, my mom arrived and couldn't bear to see her daughter in pain. She looked at me and said, "Don't be brave," which meant take the pain medicine. :-)

It was too late at that point, but I'll always remember her saying, "Don't be brave."

one of the memories of my mom that I most appreciate is right after I gave birth to Samuel. I was home from the hospital and had to have surgery 5 days post-partum. Needless to say, I was having a really hard time. I was in a lot of pain, nursing was a struggle and I was flat out exhausted. My mom just did her thing. There were always clean clothes, a glass of water on the end table while I was nursing, a sandwich or snack placed next to me when I didn't even know I was hungry. She totally took care of me like only a mom can. She was wonderful!

I have soo soo many! My mom really is the best. As a child I loved how she let me take responsibility before she was really ready to let me, because I was ready (like making a meal, letting me stay home by myself, ride my bike to the pool...). That was really hard for her, but she did it because she knew it was best for me.

One memory that pops into my mind is my birthday 1/18 right before she died on 2/7 -- we brought her to the dining room table to sing and share our ice cream cake, and she acted like there was nothing wrong -- so normal you would have liked to believe she had been healed and all was going to be ok. I miss her alot.

My mom is a brilliant woman, very accomplished pianist, and fluent in several languages. Some of my favorite memories of time spent with my mom involve sitting at the dinner table with the whole family, and her reading books and articles to us. Each time a kid said "what does that mean" concerning a word she had just read, we were directed to go get the dictionary or encyclopedia, and look it up for ourselves, and share it with the family. Mama shared her love of the written word with all of us over those meals

this is such a fun idea and I really like your blog by the way I have been a bit of a blog spy!

My favorite memory of my mother was the night before I got married she got out all of things that were mine growing up and we sat and looked at them and thought of old times, then she stayed over night at my house with me and we stayed up late and just talked about so many things and we cried, and laughed and hugged!

Hello! I'm new to your blog & followed a link from Jessica over at Farm Fresh...

Anyway, happy Mother's Day to you!

One sweet thing my mom always did, and I'll do for my kiddos is to write a note on our napkin when we took a cold lunch to school. I was never embarrassed about it - it always made me feel loved!!!
