A Gourmet Lunch.

In case you haven't figured it out yet, my son has the tendency to be a tad bit on the mischievous side. Today, that side came out again, but in a sweet way...if that makes any sense.

I had asked my friend Jen who lives next door, if she would come over for a couple of minutes while I ran to the store to drop off a video. When I returned, we were talking in the driveway and I noticed that after a couple of minutes, I didn't see K. I called for him and walked to the front of the house and I heard him answer me from inside. I opened the door and called in "K, what are you doing?" He replied, "I made lunch." I thought, "Oh no, what is he doing." So, I looked at Jen and said "do you want to come in and see what he made?" because I knew it would probably be comical. She said yes, of course...who could resist. K said "I made tomatoes and raisins, and onions and raisins!" I walked upstairs and went into the kitchen and sure enough, that is what he made! I had tomatoes and onions sliced in the refrigerator from the turkey burgers we had last night for dinner so, he took it upon himself to use them and sprinkle raisins on top for a garnish. I quickly left the room and tried to keep quiet but, I was laughing so hard, I started crying. It was really cute. The funny thing is, he loves tomatoes but, doesn't like onions so, he gave his sister the onions and kept the tomatoes for himself. I thanked him for wanting to help out but, I informed him that A could not eat the onions for lunch and we could get her something else but, she could eat the raisins and would probably enjoy them. I did let him know that next time he should ask before coming inside when we were outside, because I didn't know where he was and that he should ask before attempting to "make lunch" again. The whole episode brought a smile to my face because, really it is exactly his little personality to do something like that. He loves to help and do things for others and to him, this was something he could do to help, even if the whole kitchen reeked of raw onions. :) Here are the pictures of our gourmet "lunch". By the way, he did eat his tomatoes and raisins, and enjoyed every minute of it
because he made it himself.
Funny, huh?

Awww, that's so cute!! :) I think it's cute that he tried to give A his onions because he doesn't like them.

Someday that initiative is going to serve him very well!

I think A might still be hungry after having only onions and raisins for lunch... :)

He's such a sweet boy, G. So thoughtful, and with great intentions!

He's going to be ready to impressed the ladies with his cooking skills when he's older.

Hey, at least he's resourceful and used what was there. Leftovers anyone? And thank God he didn't try to cut the tomatoes up himself.

I love it--I especially love that you can't really tell if he's being mischievous or cute by giving his sister onions!

And please be completely annoyed with me but I'm a teacher and can't help myself: "A lot" is 2 words, so you might want to change it in your "leave a comment" blurb. I hate myself for pointing it out!

It looks like he has a flair for presentation, so maybe he'll be a chef. I have one who likes to make lunch for us sometimes. The menu is usually heavy on cheese, with cheese puffs, cheese sandwiches and cheese crackers ... oh, and cheese slices as well. But I'm a "cheesy" mama, so I love the thoughtfulness!

that so sounds like my son. He has made some 'lunch' for himself too but it is usually just sauces like ketchup and caramel.

Congratulations on being a featured blogger.

How cute is he? I do believe that you may have a budding chef growing up there or at least a man who will be able to take care of himself!

My youngest likes to "make" her own lunch, too. Usually consists of some combination of crackers, raisins, fruit snacks, applesauce or apple slices!
