my little artist.

He started with this...and ended with this...

This is called "The Colorful City." Here is how he explains it.
" It's a car hauling boxes to move and the people on the left are kids playing with yo-yo's inside of a building. And on the right are colorful windows and people are having dinner inside."

My son loves to paint. Actually, he loves anything to do with arts and crafts. He asks me to save boxes and cans and bottles so he can make things out of them. I love watching him
create. He inspires me to create.
This little work of art is now hanging in our dining room. Every time I look at it
I smile. :)

A Messy Mood.

Sometimes I'm in the mood for a mess, sometimes I'm not. Ya know what I mean? There are days when I just don't want to have to clean up anything else. But, I've come to the conclusion that messes are good sometimes, especially creative ones...as much for me as the kids. They need to create and go a little crazy sometimes and it's fun for them, and I want them to have fun and experience things. Monday was one of those "in the mood for a mess" days for me. I decided to mix up some fingerpaint and let them go crazy. With some guidelines of course.
1. The paint stayed on the cookie sheet or plastic drop cloth.
2. The paint was not to go on our face or in our mouth.
fair enough, right?
Here's "A." She enjoyed this very much!
tiny fingers dipping.
"K" was not so sure he liked the feeling of it.
"A" on the other hand loved how it felt.
It wasn't that horrible of a mess although, when it dried a little it was a bit tricky to wipe up. A little elbow grease did the trick. I also use a plastic tablecloth that I recylcled from one of "K's" birthdays that I use for art projects. For smocks, I made holes is large garbage bags, which can be reused for future messes. :)

To make your own fingerpaint; mix together equal parts flour and cold water.
Separate into small bowls and add food coloring. That's it.
I found the fingerpaint recipe at Creative Kids.

What do you do when you're in a messy mood? I love to hear your ideas!

A Creative Snack!

The makings of a yummy snack...
Add a little creativity...
A deeelicious ladybug treat!!!
This idea is from K's Your Big Backyard magazine!
Here's what you'll need if you want to try it...
Strawberries
Blueberries
Toothpicks
Mini chocolate chips
Pretzel sticks*
*the original idea suggested using black string licorice for the legs but, we opted for pretzel sticks instead and they worked just fine.
How to: Kids will need help with the toothpicks for obvious reasons. :) we broke the toothpicks in half and stuck one through a strawberry and then put a blueberry on the end to make a head. Then, turn the mini chips upside down and stick them into the stawberry for the dots. Add the pretzel legs...and there you have it. Make sure to remove the toothpick before eating! Lot of fun to make, and eat!!! You can also just let them have creative freedom and make whatever they want!

Art Appreciation Day!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Well, it's not officially art appreciation day but, on my blog it is! I love art and one of my favorite artists is Gustav Klimt. While I am not familiar with art history and don't consider myself an artist, I have grown to love and appreciate art of all types. I thought I would share one of my favorite paintings by Klimt called The Three ages of Woman. This is not the whole painting. The other part shows a woman when she is older. I hope you enjoy! If you would like to see more of Klimts works or find out more about him, here's a link.http://www.expo-klimt.com/
